A Short & Easy Initial LinkedIn Marketing plan

Wanted to share the initial LinkedIn Marketing Plan that I’ve developed. It’s a series of timed messages, articles, notes and your comments on things you see in LinkedIn. It’s easy to do, and easy to maintain. The idea is to increase your visibility.  The bottom line on LinkedIn marketing is to PARTICIPATE in the community. Don’t be a lurker😊.

The basics:

A picture of yourself – if you don’t have one, get one. A simple cell phone snap will do. Keep it business casual – not your mountain climbing/surfing/beer-in-your-hand partying persona.  SMILE. Make it a head and shoulders shot with a ¾ – 7/8 profile, not a front facing mug shot. Keep the background neutral – outside in a park, (if it’s warm), up against a shrub – greens are generally good background colors whether you’re brunette or blond.  Email it to yourself and upload to LinkedIn as a jpeg.

Complete your profile – here’s what you need. This will put you in the top 50% of profiles that get viewed.

  • Profile photo, location, industry
  • Educational background
  • Your current work position and description
  • Two past positions (if you don’t have two, break down your current role into two related roles)
  • Your skills
  • A minimum 50 connections
  • Recommendations! Carries huge weight in LinkedIn profile ranking.

And then:

  1. If your LinkedIn notifications are closed – open them up. If you’re working with me on a resume, this should happen shortly after we’ve finished all the edits to your resume and profile. That will be the big reveal.
  2. You write or repurpose content you may already have for short article for publication in your profile about anything that interests you – short, punchy, easy to ready, <500 words – can be informational re: your area of expertise, a personal opinion or anything. Do keep it business-centric. Augmentin for sale over the counter. Post to LinkedIn in the “Write an article” section at the top of your home page. Talk about what drives you at work, or share a nugget that other people would find useful. Do this regularly – the sequencing should be once every 3-4 weeks initially and then once every 6  weeks or so.
  3. You comment on or share things you see/read in LinkedIn. Your notifications will be open so people will see your name immediately after you comment.  We’re hoping to create a buzz about you and future plans.  This shouldn’t be excessive, just maybe one a day or every other day as you cruise through LinkedIn articles, unless something just grabs you!
  4. If you’re in resume/profile recreation mode, targeting your top 10 or 15 LinkedIn contacts and asking for their opinion on your resume – or asking for advice, updating them on what you’re doing and what they think about next steps.
  5. Write & publish 2nd article to LinkedIn. Do this regularly – the sequencing should be once every 3-4 weeks initially and then once every 6  weeks or so.
  6. Join Groups that make sense – close to what you do. Read and comment there as well.  They may also be a good source of job information.
