In these uncertain times I hope you’re doing well! Working from home, social distancing, kids doing online schooling, sheltering at home or lockdown – whatever is going on with you, it’s a lot to deal with.

While we hope and pray that this will all turn out ok, it’s best to be prepared.  Now is a good time to update your resume if you’re working from home and have a little extra time.

Why? Because great opportunities come along all the time and you should be ready! And if the worst happens and you get laid off, you’re in a position to quickly get out there and into job search mode.

The experts say you should update your resume at least twice year. You want to refresh your more recent, relevant and valuable skills and expertise while its uppermost in your mind.

1.       Make sure you take an inventory of skills that you’ve acquired, the accomplishments that you’ve achieved in the last 6 -12 months, goals you’ve reached and responsibilities that you have added to your most recent job.

2.       Update your education and certifications. If you are still showing your high school on your resume or LinkedIn, that should be taken off.

3.       If you’re doing volunteer work, keep that up to date. If you’ve received awards, they should also be noted.

4.       Check with Indeed, Monster and LinkedIn for suggestions and templates.  If it’s been a while and it feels a little overwhelming, I’m happy to work with you as well.

5.      Don’t forget your LinkedIn profile – get current recommendations to add credibility and social proof of the value you bring.

If you’d like to chat about the next iteration of your resume, shoot me a note!

Thanks,
